Sub-regions
The wine region of Štajerska Slovenia consists of six subdistricts: Ljutomer-Ormož, Radgona-Kapela, Central Slovenske Gorice, Haloze, Maribor, and Šmarje-Virštanj. Until 2006, they were separate regions, but since then, they have been merged into one unified region – Štajerska Slovenia. Although they rightfully belong to one region, there are still noticeable differences in soil, climatic conditions, relief, and grape varieties, which contribute to the very diverse offer of Styrian wines.

Ljutomer and Ormož are important traditional wine centers. In the late 1960s, large and modern wine cellars were built in both cities.
