Sub-region Srednje Slovenske gorice
VITICULTURE AND VINE PROPAGATION
In terms of vineyard area, this is a smaller subdistrict of the Štajerska Slovenia region, although it stretches over a fairly large area. To the east, it borders the Ljutomer-Ormož and Radgona-Kapela subdistricts, to the south it borders the Drava Valley, to the west it borders the Pesnica Valleys and slightly further north the Maribor wine district. To the north, it borders the Mura Valley.

The predominantly hilly area is most suitable for viticulture in its southeastern part. The vineyards are widely scattered, planted on lower-lying hills with gentler slopes. The soils are slightly heavier than in other areas. The most important wine center of the region is the city of Ptuj, which has always been an important wine trade hub with numerous wine merchants.
In Juršinci, the first vine propagation cooperative for Lower Styria was established in 1906 and remains the center for modern vine propagation in Slovenia. Vine propagation plays an exceptionally important role in the renewal of vineyards with quality planting material.
