Sub-region Radgona-Kapela
TRADITION OF SPARKLING WINE PRODUCTION, TRAMINER, AND RADGONSKA RANINA
The Radgona-Kapela wine district in the east borders the Mura valleys, to the north it borders the Austrian wine region of Südsteiermark, and to the south and west, it borders the Central Slovenske Gorice.

The continental climate is influenced by the Pannonian Plain. Between the hills with gentler slopes, fresh Alpine air meets the dry Pannonian climate. The vineyard soils are diverse, with predominantly sandy-loam, deeper soils.
The central town of the sub-region is Gornja Radgona, considered the Slovenian capital of sparkling wine. It was here in 1852 that Alojz Klainošek produced the first sparkling wine in Slovenia. Since then, the tradition of sparkling wine production has been preserved and developed, and today the sub-region is renowned for its excellent sparkling wines. In addition to sparkling wine production, the area is known for excellent Traminers and the Radgonska ranina (Bouvier) variety, considered an indigenous Slovenian grape variety.
