When a traveler arrives at the foot of Boč, in the heart of the Dravinja River, the rich natural and cultural heritage invites him to stop and get to know more closely the precious gems of the past and natural heritage that have been entrusted to us for preservation and are a source of pride for the local people living here.
The Municipality of Poljčane separated from the former Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica in 2006 and covers an area of 37.5 km². As you look around, you have plenty of opportunities for active leisure. The unspoiled nature of the Dravinja Valley, with its Natura 2000 area and protected zones, the slopes of Boč on the right, and the populated hilly landscape on the left side of the Dravinja River together create the image of a place shaped by local culinary offerings, hospitality providers, numerous local associations, and community events. Among the most important traditional events are the Studenice Summer Evening, the St. Martin’s Hike through the vineyard cottages of Studenice winegrowers, the traditional concert of the Janko Živko Poljčane Wind Orchestra, and the Live Nativity Scene in Studenice.

The municipalities of the Dravinja Valley are connected by the Dravinja River, which, even in the past, shaped a picturesque landscape rich with natural potential. In addition to their location and natural heritage, the municipalities of Makole, Majšperk, and Poljčane also share a similar historical and cultural background. These shared characteristics provided the foundation for establishing cycling, educational, and hiking trails throughout the Dravinja Valley.
The Dravinja Valley is a true treasure trove of natural and cultural heritage. The Dravinja River has created a unique ecosystem where aquatic life intertwines with seasonally flooded meadows and habitats, forming a harmonious and biodiverse environment.
