In the heart of the Slovenske gorice, in the hilly landscape between the Pesnica and Ščavnica rivers, lies the Municipality of Cerkvenjak. Cerkvenjak is the administrative, economic, educational, and cultural center of the wider area. The town got its name from the church that already stood here at the end of the 13th century.
In the Cerkvenjak hills, polycultural plant production predominated, and alongside it, livestock farming also developed. When looking comprehensively at agricultural production over the past few decades, livestock farming has been the main orientation and the driving force of agriculture in this area.
