Roman Burial Mound Cemetery in Anželj Forest, Brengova
The Roman burial mound cemetery in Anželj Forest, Brengova, is considered one of the most important cultural monuments of Roman civilization in this region. Dating back around 1,800 years, the cemetery comprises 15 round mounds and is part of a larger complex of burial mound cemeteries in the area, where more than 500 mounds from various periods have been preserved. Finds from the mounds are largely undocumented, except for one grave in which fragments of pottery (remains of pots, a jug, bowls, a cup, a footed dish, and a tripod dish) and a Roman bronze coin of Emperor Hadrian were discovered (found by Dr. Vlado Lorber). Next to the archaeological park, a tourist facility has been built where local souvenirs are on display. The park itself features a walking path winding among the mounds and a covered wooden shelter, which also serves as an open-air classroom for schoolchildren.
