WHAT DOES ŠTAJERSKA TASTE LIKE?

Fresh. Aromatic. Elegant.

The Štajerska Wine Region boasts an exceptionally diverse range of grape varieties. As many as 32 grape varieties are permitted or recommended, although approximately 12 main varieties account for the majority of production.

Štajerska is distinctly a white wine region. Its diverse vineyard sites, soils and climate allow for a wide range of expressions – from light, fresh and highly aromatic wines to complex wines with excellent ageing potential.

Certain grape varieties hold a special place due to their close connection with specific parts of Štajerska. Šipon (Furmint) is particularly characteristic of the Ljutomer-Ormož Hills and Haloze and is considered one of the oldest traditional grape varieties of the region. Ranina is an indigenous Slovenian grape variety discovered by Clotar Bouvier in 1900 in vineyards near Gornja Radgona. Radgona-Kapela is also renowned for its Traminec (Traminer), while among red varieties, modra frankinja (Blaufränkisch) and modri pinot (Pinot Noir) are becoming increasingly prominent.
