The Župetinci Oak

In the Župetinci ravine stands a mighty oak, known to only a few, although such oaks are rare in Slovenia. Its trunk measures an impressive 7 meters in circumference, and its age is estimated at an incredible 300–400 years. Similar trees can be found near Krško, Spodnja Ščavnica, Čakovci, and perhaps elsewhere, but none of them are officially listed in the records of nature conservation authorities—just like this giant in Župetinci.

In 2000, local residents cleared the area around the oak, which had previously been overgrown with dense shrubs. Beneath its vast crown, they placed benches and arranged a small path leading to the tree, so that visitors can stop, sit beneath it, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
