The Municipality of Gornja Radgona is located in northeastern Slovenia. It encompasses the Ščavnica Valley and the picturesque, wine-rich hills of the Radgona region. Known as the town of sparkling wine, Gornja Radgona is famous throughout Slovenia and beyond for its wines—especially the renowned Zlata Radgonska penina (Golden Radgona Sparkling Wine), which has been produced since 1852 using the traditional champagne method.
Gornja Radgona is also a town of fairs. Numerous exhibitors and visitors associate it with its most prominent event—the annual International Agricultural and Food Fair, renamed AGRA in 2009. It is one of the most important trade fairs of its kind in the region.
The town and municipality are home to several unique cultural landmarks. Among them are two castles, the Špital (a historical hospital building from the 17th century), and a Memorial Park that commemorates war events in the municipality. Within the park stands the Alley of the Greats, featuring busts of notable individuals from Gornja Radgona who have made significant contributions to regional social and cultural life, as well as to Slovenian science and national culture.
