Church of St. Peter

St. Peter’s Church was designated for worship after 1545, when the Church of St. Rupert on Castle Hill was demolished and the parish seat was transferred to the town of Radkersburg. The church is first mentioned in 1466, while the present building dates from 1813, when a mostly new structure was erected, preserving only the Chapel of the Cross and the tower wall from the earlier church. Unlike its predecessor, the new church was built in the opposite orientation. Constructed in the Romanesque style, it was later enlarged and renovated at the end of the 19th century. During the war in 1991, the bell tower was destroyed; it was rebuilt, and by 1993 the entire building was restored. The church façade contains a late Gothic crucifix and three figural tombstones from the first half of the 17th century. The interior remains richly decorated and adorned with frescoes.
