Parish Pilgrimage Church of the Nativity of Mary
The Pilgrimage Parish Church of the Nativity of Mary stands in the centre of Negova, next to the castle. In earlier times, it was under the patronage of nearby Negova Castle. The original Gothic church was commissioned in 1556 by Countess Katharina Trauttmannsdorf. The present church was built between 1699 and 1710, as indicated by the year 1710 engraved on its portal. In 1850, the Church of St. Mary was expanded with the addition of the Chapel of the Cross, constructed using material from the former cemetery wall. The interior of the church was decorated with frescoes in 1927 by Franc Gornik and Alojzij Mauk. The main altar, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dates to 1712, while the side altars are from the post-Baroque period. All the altars were later remodelled and fitted with Tyrolean statues from 1888. The altar in the chapel dates back to the mid-19th century. The church organ, built in 1760, is Baroque in style with Rococo ornamentation, and it was further upgraded in 1893. The rectory next to the church was built in 1763. In front of the church stands a Baroque stone statue of Charles Borromeo, while along the path between the church and Negova Castle is a stone statue of John of Nepomuk, dating to the first half of the 18th century.
