GORNJA RADGONA MUNICIPALITY
Avenue of the Greats
Thanks to its favourable location on the River Mura, at the foothills of the vineyards, and its strategic position, Gornja Radgona has always been a crossroads of different paths and a meeting place of many people. Over time, this vibrant town also became a place where diverse creativity flourished – home to scholars, artists, and visionaries. Among them are the eleven “inhabitants” of the Avenue of the Greats, who, through their work, instilled hope in the people both near and far, awakening national and human pride. Some shaped regional social and cultural life, while others left a mark on national science and culture. All of them, however, continue to inspire today and remain an indelible part of the town’s spiritual heritage.

Today, the Avenue of the Greats features statues of:
Ivan Kramberger – philanthropist, innovator, and politician
General Rudolf Maister
Dr. Anton Trstenjak – academic, psychologist, theologian
Peter Dajnko – linguist, beekeeper, and writer
Anton Krempl – national awakener, historian, and writer
Jože Veršič – maker of hand and leg prostheses
Manko Golar – poet, school principal, and choir conductor
Dr. Franc Simonič – bibliographer and librarian
Dr. Janko Šlebinger – bibliographer and literary historian
France Veber – philosopher
Janez Akvila – painter
