Heart among the Vineyards

This famous heart-shaped road is located right on the border with neighboring Austria, in Špičnik, Svečina (Municipality of Kungota). It lies 20 kilometers from Maribor. The vineyard surrounding the iconic road, which gives it its special shape, is owned by the Šerbinek Winery, while the heart itself is best viewed from the courtyard of the Dreisiebner Tourist Farm. You can reach the farm directly by driving along the heart-shaped road and parking at a small gravel lot, free of charge. Besides offering a stunning view of the road, the tourist farm is also known for its long tradition of winemaking. On the sunny slopes of Špičnik, they cultivate white wine varieties. Along with wine and the panoramic views, the farm offers guests traditional homemade delicacies. Next to the viewing platform, there is also a small bistro where you can sit, though the heart-shaped road cannot be seen from there. The road’s unique shape was almost accidental. While being built, a bend to the right was made to reduce its steepness, and by chance, this gave it the heart-shaped form it is so famous for today.

A border hiking trail through the Svečina hills also passes by the farm, where you can enjoy walks among the vineyards with numerous panoramic viewpoints. The entire landscape is covered in vineyards, and at its very heart lies its most famous landmark – the heart-shaped road. It is a perfect symbol of a place where the love of life and the love of wine go hand in hand.
