The Municipality of Šentilj is located in the western part of the Slovenske Gorice, on the watershed between the Drava and Mura rivers, and borders neighboring Austria to the north. The municipality is predominantly rich in water, with numerous streams, ponds, and the Mura River, which drains large amounts of water. The Mura River provides a habitat for many animal and plant species, including endangered ones, and is also known for its unique cable ferry, the “Brod na Muri.” Due to its proximity to the state border, the municipality is gradually transforming from its former rural character into a residential area for many daily commuters. The municipality consists of four local communities: Šentilj, Sladki Vrh, Ceršak, and Velka.
