Brod na Muri

Brod na Muri represents an important transport link between Austria and Slovenia. It is a cultural monument of a special kind, as this type of river crossing has been preserved for many years, operating in this very location for over 150 years. Today, it is one of only four ferries still navigating the river and serves as a unique international border crossing. Nowadays, it is mainly used by tourists, as it connects several international cycling and hiking routes.

Until 1922, all traffic across the river relied solely on ferries, which were primarily used by landowners for the transport of timber and crops. Today, the ferry stands as a tourist attraction and a unique international river crossing, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s cultural and technical heritage.
