Makole Municipality

Makole

Makole

It is located in the Dravinja Valley on the western edge of the Haloze hills, at the mouth of the Jelovšek stream. In the past, Makole had a black coal mine in Šega, a brick factory in Remont, a sawmill on the Dravinja River, a blacksmith’s shop, water mills for grinding flour, and the town also had many small craftsmen. Today, Makole is a touristically attractive municipality with great development potential and a rich cultural and natural heritage.

The municipalities in the Dravinja Valley are connected by the Dravinja River, which in the past created a picturesque landscape with many natural potentials. Since the municipalities of Makole, Majšperk, and Poljčane share not only their location and natural heritage but also a similar history and cultural heritage, these common features have formed the basis for establishing cycling, educational, and hiking trails in the Dravinja Valley.

The Dravinja Valley is a treasure trove of natural and cultural heritage. The Dravinja River has created a beautiful ecosystem where life in the water intertwines with life on periodically flooded areas.
