Everyone fails sometimes — but we haven’t in a long time!

Tradition

“Our family name has been present for at least 500 years. For 300 years, our household has been known as Kušter, and so our wines carry this name as well.” Vinko Šerbinek learned the winemaking craft from his grandfather, also named Vinko. His father, likewise Vinko, was mainly engaged in fruit growing. After the war, the family was left with only a third of a hectare of vineyard, and it was not until 1989…

Wines

Our vineyard sites border Austria, where the approach to wine is different, and so our wines also stand apart from the average Styrian wines. In the vineyard and in our old wine cellar, where each year an abundance of wine matures, we — as winegrowers and wine lovers — strive to produce mature and rich yet at the same time fresh, fruity, and varietally expressive dry and semi-dry wines.

Fruit Farming

We begin harvesting apples in mid-July. The first to be picked is the Jerseymac variety, a tangy and juicy early apple, among the best in its category. We then continue with Gala, a red beauty with a sweeter taste — juicy and firm, and the first variety that can be stored for a longer time, usually available until the end of the year. Next comes a classic: Golden Delicious — for all lovers of aromatic and juicy apples with less acidity. Perfect for pastries and applesauce. After Golden Delicious, something new for us: Topaz. Surely everyone has already heard of it. And indeed, it is excellent. It slightly recalls the old varieties, both in aroma and in appearance.
