OUR NAME MEANS “SOMETHING HIDDEN AND SACRED.”
We are a boutique family winery.
Our name means “something hidden and sacred.”
The owner of Sanctum is Mr. Marko Podkubovšek, a world traveler and wine enthusiast who believes in local tradition and handcrafted wines. Our vineyards stretch across the steep southern slopes of the hills above Loče, an area with a rich winemaking tradition, where Carthusian monks were already cultivating vines as far back as the 12th century.
We are inspired by world wines and global cuisine. Year after year, Sanctum succeeds in producing ever finer vintages through knowledge and precision — wines that uncompromisingly showcase the pronounced minerality of marl soil and the complex aromatics of the cool climate.
Sanctum wines are the result of a natural approach to vine cultivation, careful handcraft, and respect for the power of nature and marl soils.
Because our vineyards are free from any chemical agents, artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, we achieve smaller yields but healthier grapes. We strive not for quantity, but for quality. Each year, we produce only 30,000 bottles.
Our main varieties are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, accompanied by Syrah, which thrives exceptionally well in this location.
We offer our wines to connoisseurs in Slovenia’s finest restaurants, while 60% of our production is exported abroad, primarily to the United States.
We strive to produce wines that are as natural as possible, with minimal intervention in the winemaking process. We believe in the most natural approach to vinification.
We are convinced that wine matures in the vineyard, which is why we avoid additives in the cellar. Our wines are created through spontaneous fermentation with their own natural yeasts, without accelerating the process by adding enzymes.
Our goal is to produce wines that are a true expression of our unique terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested, and each plot is vinified separately. Fermentation and aging take place in French oak barriques and 500-liter Slavonian oak barrels.
We organize wine tastings for guests with prior reservations. They are enriched with high-quality culinary offerings, in cooperation with local producers. We also prepare tapas, and upon request, the wine tasting can be elevated with a cultural or artistic performance.
