We are continuing what the Carthusian monks began in the 12th century.
Our vineyards are located on the hills above the Žiče Charterhouse. The monastery was founded around the year 1160 AD and is one of the oldest in Europe, as well as the first outside France or Italy.
In the charterhouse, wine was also produced and sold, and we believe that it was the monks who planted the two most important French varieties—Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Jurij took over the estate in 2006 after his father’s passing and began restoring the vineyards. He expanded them and started focusing on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as the two flagship varieties of the Meum winery.
Today, we cultivate around 6 hectares of vineyards and produce about 20,000 bottles of high-quality wine.
