Every family has it – tradition. The history of our farm goes back five generations. Time has done its part, new generations were born, carrying forward the love for the vine. Our story has a beginning, but no end. It has a signature. With each vintage we create our own understanding of the terroir, aware that in wine the Earth is the mother, the Sun the father, and the winemaker the destiny.

Our vineyards

The Joannes Protner House is located five kilometers from the center of Maribor, in the direction of Malečnik. We have been actively engaged in viticulture for over three decades and currently cultivate a total of 18 hectares of vineyards.

The vineyards, some up to 45 years old, flourish on three beautiful sites: Vodole, Šempetrska Gorca, and Celestrina. In 2019, we obtained an Eco Certificate for part of our vineyards. An additional 6 hectares are now under organic cultivation, as we strive for a new beginning in our existing story – one that we aim to further develop and enrich.

We cordially invite you to our terrace, located directly above our vineyards with a stunning view, where you can stroll through the vines, feel our family tradition, breathe in nature, and taste our wines paired with local delicacies.

Joannes Protner Cellar

"The Joannes Protner Winery is located just a few kilometers from the center of Maribor, along the Maribor Wine Road, offering beautiful views of the Drava Valley and the Pohorje Hills with its famous ski resort. The more than 200-year-old wine cellar was expanded in 1999. Today, the old part of the cellar serves as a space for tastings and for storing archive wines. Some wines mature in oak barrels for at least six months, while others reach the market only after two years. The remaining wines age in stainless steel tanks or in acacia barrels.
