Church of St. Miklavž
The Parish Church of St. Miklavž stands within a walled cemetery in the old village center. Built in the Romanesque style, construction began in the 16th century and was completed in 1662, though it was already mentioned in 1382. The church features a rectangular nave with a three-sided presbytery, a sacristy on the south side, and a bell tower on the western façade. Entry is through a stone portal beneath the tower.
Embedded in the nave wall are several Roman spolia, and the rectangular windows add to its simple architectural charm. The vaulted interior houses Baroque furnishings. The main altar, originally from 1705, was completed between 1717 and 1718 by the sculptor Pogačnik. On the south wall of the bell tower is a large fresco of St. Krištof, one of the largest of its kind in Slovenia, painted in the early 16th century. On the church’s exterior, a marble tombstone depicting a genius between two lions is also preserved.
