Simonič Homestead
The Simonič Homestead, over 200 years old, is located in Trnovska Vas. The municipality has declared the homestead a cultural monument, and it is listed in the Register of Cultural Heritage under the protection of the Institute for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage Maribor.
It is one of the few preserved original Pannonian homesteads in Slovenia.
The homestead features a thatched roof and is built in an L-shape. It is a true Pannonian house, a wooden cimprana structure, built in 1787. Upon entering the house, one first steps into the priklet or hallway. From here, you enter directly into a well-preserved black kitchen, the only one of its kind preserved in the wider area. To the left of the entrance is the large front room with a traditional bread oven, while to the right is the back room.
To the right of the kitchen is a kamra, which was once used for storing potatoes. Later additions to the house include windows not true to the original design and replaced flooring. The building extends into a farm outbuilding, which is roofed with tiles. In the front room there is a small window once used for ventilation. Outside the house are several auxiliary structures: a gümna (threshing floor), a listjak (corn crib), a verštat (workshop), a stable, a pigsty, and a woodshed. Such Pannonian houses were once the homes of vineyard workers.
