Barovčin horn
The horn is a hollow, cleaned cattle horn that was once used in various ways: as a drinking vessel, as a container for holy water hung by the entrance to the main room of a farmhouse, or as a vodir – a vessel worn by mowers on their belts, used for wetting the whetstone. The Barovčin Horn served the shepherd, who used special melodies to gather the livestock from the farms in the morning and lead them to the common pasture. In the evening, with a different tune, he would guide the animals back home. The shepherd played various melodies during his work, depending on the occasion – for gathering the herd, preventing it from scattering, calling for help, or performing festive and playful tunes.
