Fala Hydroelectric Power Plant and Museum

The Fala Hydroelectric Power Plant Museum received an award from the movement kultura-natura.si in the category Heritage Preservation. The Tourist Association of Selnica ob Dravi encouraged the museum’s participation in the project with the aim of increasing the recognition of the town and consequently also of the museum. The award ceremony took place on Sunday, 28 September, as part of the cross-border presentation Slovenia without Borders at the Bonaca 2014 fair in Portorož.

The movement for the preservation and promotion of Slovenian cultural and natural heritage/landscape kultura-natura.si presented the Naša Slovenija awards for the fifth time this year. So far, 60 prominent and exemplary recipients from Slovenia and abroad have received the awards. Across the five calls, there have been more than 200 nominations in four categories: Heritage Preservation, Research and Promotion of Heritage, Merits of Individuals or Organizations, and Education, Training, and Awareness-Raising.

The old part of the Fala Hydroelectric Power Plant was designated as technical heritage in 1986. After renovation and the installation of new units, all seven of the old ones were taken out of operation by 1996. This enabled the arrangement of rooms and equipment in the old part of the power plant for the preservation of technical heritage, i.e., the museum. The equipment and premises are arranged in such a way that visitors can experience the original appearance from the year 1918.
