Church of St. Areh

The Church of St. Areh was built by Henrik Rogaški the mid-13th century as a sign of reconciliation with the Benedictines. It is dedicated to Emperor Henrik II, who reigned from 1002 to 1024 and was canonized by Pope Evgen III in 1146. Its greatest feature is the tomb of St. Areh in the late Romanesque style, located in the middle of the church in front of the presbytery, serving as evidence of the church’s great age. The originally Romanesque church acquired its present appearance in the second half of the 17th century, when it was enlarged and renovated.
