Ormož Lake
The Ormož Lake is an artificial lake on the Drava River and is one of the largest reservoirs in Slovenia. It also forms part of the border between Slovenia and Croatia. Its shores are lined with extensive reed beds, grasslands and floodplain forests, providing valuable habitats for numerous waterbird species. The rare pygmy cormorant also winters here.
Adjacent to the lake lies the Ormož Lagoons Nature Reserve, an internationally important wetland for birdlife. Together, the lake and the lagoons form Slovenia's largest stopover site for migratory waterbirds.
