2 Franciscan Church (Basilica of Our Mother of Mercy)

As you stroll through the historic old town, your eye is quickly drawn to the distinctive “red” church and monastery on Partizanska cesta and Bishop Maksimilijan Držečnik Street. A beloved city landmark with its twin towers and the lively rhythm of the Franciscan community, it invites you to pause for a moment—into silence, and perhaps to light a candle with a wish. Legend has it that the friars once received a cow from a farmer—without a rope. Ever since, they have worn a cord around their waist so they are always ready: to serve and to set out on their way.
