Carnival Masks during Fašenk

The time of pust or fašenk, as the locals call it, is the period between February 2 (Candlemas) and Ash Wednesday. During this time, a number of events related to the theme of pust take place in Markovci. The purpose of all these events is to preserve the exceptionally rich cultural heritage of ethnographic and carnival figures from the Drava–Ptuj area. At this time one can see koranti, devils, ploughmen, lancers, rusa, melika, fairies, piceki, korika, kopaja, bozjak, and other carnival masks.
