MARIBOR MUNICIPALITY
Maribor City Park
The lively city streets lead us to one of Slovenia’s most beautiful urban parks, featuring three ponds. The park is a popular promenade for locals and visitors of all ages, and it invites everyone coming to this city on the Drava River. In the park, you’ll stroll among numerous trees that are over 140 years old, and since 1976 the area has been protected as a monument of designed nature. The path winds among well-tended flower beds, diverse trees, fountains, and the Rose Hill.

The ponds in Maribor’s City Park are home to many waterbirds—you’ll often spot ducks, swans, and even turtles—and several fish species swim in the water. Just a short walk away is one of the best-known aquariums in Southern and Central Europe, showcasing around 120 species of fish (freshwater and marine). The complex also includes a terrarium with over one hundred species of reptiles (including highly venomous snakes), as well as various amphibians and insects. By the first pond, you’ll find preserved and restored remains of the former boathouse.
Did you know? In and around the park there are actually five ponds?
