Sestrško Lake

Sestrško Lake, officially named the Medvedce Reservoir, is a very important bird area with numerous rare and endangered breeding species. Among the species of conservation importance, it is the most important nesting site in Slovenia for the globally endangered Ferruginous Duck (Aythya nyroca), as well as the Gadwall (Anas strepera), Common Pochard (Aythya ferina), and Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula). Today, Sestrško Lake is a popular destination, especially for nature lovers, hikers, and those seeking relaxation. A walking path is arranged around the lake, leading on the eastern side to a hayrack in Sestrže and to the gallery of painter Branko Gajšt.

At the lake, an educational trail for bird observation has been established, which is also widely used by primary school pupils.
