Set in a relaxing atmosphere amid the vineyard landscape of the Haloze Hills, Krčma Janževina is a house of wine and cuisine with a rich history spanning more than 400 years. For generations, the people who lived here made their living from wine, fruit and other gifts of nature.
The house itself—more precisely its eastern part—belonged for most of its history to the monastery of Ptujska Gora, the Marian pilgrimage shrine. In the second half of the 19th century, the building was extended to the west and given the appearance it has today. The Mlakar family purchased the property ten years ago and transformed it into an inn inspired by the “golden age” of the Haloze wine region (1840–1945). Krčma Janževina is therefore likely the first fully themed restaurant in Slovenia—reflected in its story, ambience, music, staff costumes and, of course, its cuisine. The culinary experience, titled “A Walk Through the Flavours of Our Ancestors,” is adapted for the 21st century and offers a unique experience available by prior reservation only.

In 2024, the story gained a new dimension when Tilen Sedlak and Maja Pečarič (S Vino) took over the management. Alongside culinary delights, the offer now includes a range of wine experiences for individuals and groups, such as tasting in the dark, story-led wine tastings, guided tours, catered receptions and more.
