Church of St. Andrej in Svečina

The Parish Church of St. Andrej was first mentioned in documents in 1195, when it was consecrated and endowed with certain parish rights. Its present appearance dates from between 1652 and 1657. It is a typical 17th-century building, although architectural details of the Gothic style from Slovenske Gorice can also be seen. The bell tower dates from the first half of the 19th century.

The present structure consists of: a square bell tower with a sheet-metal pyramidal roof, a rectangular nave, and an equally wide and high semicircular presbytery, both covered by a common tiled roof. Attached to the eastern part of the nave is a rectangular chapel on the north side, and on the south side a sacristy with an oratory. The main altar is dedicated to the patron, the Apostle Andrej, while the side altars are dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Conception. The oval pulpit with a bulbous canopy represents a very fine piece of church furnishing. In the bell tower hang two bronze bells: the larger dating from 1518, and the smaller from 1877.
