Hompoš Castle - Pohorski Manor
Hompoš Castle is located in the village of Pivola near Maribor. The castle is a large complex, rather elongated in layout and partially cellarised, with two storeys. The core of the castle’s design is the southern wing, built of stone, while the eastern and western wings are built of brick. The exterior of the southern wing features stone window frames, and on the courtyard side, columned arcades.
Around 1945, the castle underwent its last major renovations, which significantly blurred its original historical design. Surrounding the castle are the remains of its original old park, and below it stands a large, square-plan farm building with an inner courtyard and outer wings. Today, the castle is fully modernised and adapted for educational purposes, housing the premises of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences of the University of Maribor.
