Maribor Municipality

Festival of the Oldest Vine

The Festival of the Oldest Vine is a celebration of wine, gastronomy, and culture, dedicated to the more than 450-year-old vine growing in Maribor’s Lent district, recognized as the oldest vine in the world.

The festival brings together premium wines, local cuisine, cultural events, and genuine Styrian hospitality. During the festival, the city centre transforms into a vibrant venue for wine tastings, presentations by winemakers, live music performances, and open-air social gatherings. Visitors can discover the region’s rich wine-growing heritage, taste award-winning wines, and experience the unique atmosphere surrounding the world’s oldest vine.

The highlight of the festival is the ceremonial harvest of the Oldest Vine – a distinguished protocol and social event with a long-standing tradition. The programme is complemented by expert sessions, wine workshops, and culinary stories that emphasize the connection between wine, culture, and heritage.

The Festival of the Oldest Vine is a celebration of wine, community, and pride – an experience that unites past and present and reinforces Maribor’s position as one of the most important wine destinations in this part of Europe.
