Drava River
The Drava River is deeply connected to the development of Maribor and life along its banks. It is said that the roots of the World's Oldest Grapevine, growing on the Lent embankment in Maribor, reach deep towards the river, which has nourished and sustained this unique plant for centuries. On and along the river, with its rich flora and fauna, numerous activities are possible: the riverbanks feature well-maintained walking and cycling paths, while the Drava itself offers opportunities for stand-up paddling, water skiing, wakeboarding, or even a ride on a traditional timber raft.
A vibrant animal world
Take a walk along the Drava River and discover the diverse community of its “inhabitants” along the banks. The river basin is home to more than 90 bird species and 50 fish species. Nature enthusiasts will also be fascinated by two remarkable sites of protected rocks – Huzar’s Leap and the Devil’s Rocks.
Definitely worth a visit are:
the old riverbed,
spring streams and their sources, and
floodplain forests and groves.
