Cirkulane Heritage Park

The Cirkulane Heritage Park is located in a beautiful setting in the very center of Cirkulane, right next to the Church of St. Katarina. It is an open-air ethnological museum that offers visitors an insight into the traditional way of life and work of our ancestors.

For many years, locals had been striving to preserve at least a part of the heritage that was quickly disappearing. Their efforts began to take shape in 2017, when the Municipal Council of Cirkulane supported the initiative for the local community to take over the care of a typical Haloze cimprana house, where a local ethnographic museum could be created. In 2019, the project for the establishment of the ethnological museum—named Cirkulane Heritage Park—was prepared, and the park was built and arranged in 2021.

At the heart of the museum is a straw-thatched cimprana house, accompanied by a small stable and a cart shed with a barn. The buildings are furnished with original equipment and other objects donated by locals. The museum complex also includes an herbal garden, vineyards, and a beehive.

Through the houses, farm tools and equipment, and collections of ethnological objects, the park showcases the material heritage of our ancestors. At the same time, through events and activities held throughout the year, it also preserves and presents the intangible heritage—such as traditional knowledge, skills, customs, and practices.
