SVETI ANDRAŽ V SLOVENSKIH GORICAH MUNICIPALITY
Church of St. Andrej/St. Andraž
The origins of the present parish date back to the 15th century. In 1513, construction began on the current Church of St. Andrej, built on a hill at an elevation of 293 meters. It was erected among pine trees and fortified with walls to protect it from Turkish invasions. Until 1415, this area belonged to the Ptuj Archpresbytery, and after 1415 it became part of the parish of St. Lovrenc (today Juršinci), both under the Ptuj Archdiocese. In 1819, chaplain Franc Vrbnjak introduced a fair on the feast day of the parish’s patron, St. Andraž, celebrated on November 30.
