Kalvarija with the Church of St. Barbara

Kalvarija – a magnificent view of the city. Admire the vineyards that adorn the hillsides!

You can reach the top of the 375-meter-high city hill by climbing the famous “šteng” – 455 stone steps – a popular walking path and recreational spot for locals.

At the summit stands the Church of St. Barbara, built in the second half of the 17th century by the people of Maribor in gratitude for being spared from the plague. Near the church you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of Maribor and its surroundings.

A Way of the Cross also leads up Kalvarija, from which the hill takes its name.
